RF/IR SHIELDING FOR SCIF

A SCIF, or Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (pronounced “skiff”), is a U.S. Department of Defense term for a secure room. It can be a secure room, building or data center that guards against electronic surveillance and suppresses data leakage of sensitive security and military information. SCIFs are used to deny unauthorized personnel, such as foreign intelligence services or corporate spies, the opportunity for undetected entry into facilities for the exploitation of sensitive activities.

One of the primary areas Signals Defense protects against electronic eavesdropping and reducing a TEMPEST threat is in SCIFs.

SCIFs are rooms, floors, or buildings that are used to process classified information. These spaces have taken exceptional precautions to prevent the loss of data by protecting against physical, cyber and technical means.  There have been directives created to help in the construction of a SCIF.  One of these guidelines is called ICD-705.  It provides an overview of the construction goals and methodologies that must be used in the construction of a SCIF.

Signals Defense was instrumental in the introduction of windows in SCIFs.  Previously, if a SCIF contained a window, it was laminated with heavy copper meshes and did not reject InfraRed signals now required.  Signals Defense RF window film allowed a more transparent and visually appealing view, while attenuating modern RF and IR threats.

Signals Defense has a long history of providing the RF attenuation materials such as window film, rFoil, and RF paint.  The company also has significant experience and resources to help consult in the construction of the Technical Security requirements of SCIF construction.
